This is a long-awaited feature that brings an extra layer of security to Stacks apps by empowering users to connect their hardware wallets to the Hiro Wallet instead of relying on “software” wallets (e.g. the direct entry of Secret Keys). Ledger users can already access the Stacks App on Ledger Live with the Hiro Wallet desktop application. This latest release brings Ledger support to the Hiro Wallet web extension.

To ensure a seamless user experience, we’re asking the Stacks community to help us test a preview release of this new feature and report any issues they encounter via Github before we release it for general usage. If you’d like to participate, read the instructions for installing the new preview build of the Hiro Wallet and accompanying Stacks app for Ledger devices.

Since this is a preview release, there are limitations to be aware of:
- Ledger is not supported by Firefox, only Chromium browsers such as Chrome and Brave.
- Users cannot save data with apps via Gaia when authenticating apps with Ledger through the preview release.
- Users cannot “Increase fee” for transactions or sign arbitrary messages when authenticating with Ledger through the preview release.
- Wallets can only use a pre-determined number of accounts (5).
We will release Ledger support in the Hiro Wallet web extension officially after incorporating feedback from the community. Please try out the build and let us know your feedback on Discord in the #wallet channel or in the relevant GitHub discussion!
